Aldo Mareuse – Chief Executive Officer
Aldo Mareuse is the Chief Executive Officer at Telkom Kenya. An Engineer by profession, with 26 years’ experience in the telecommunications sector, Aldo was Managing Partner of Accelero Capital, a telecoms fund management group he co-founded to invest in the telecommunications sector with particular focus on turnaround situations. Prior to Accelero Capital, Aldo was the Group Chief Financial Officer of Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) and Wind Telecom Group.
While there he was instrumental in its growth from a mid-sized regional mobile operator with 4 million subscribers in 2002 into a global operator with 100 million subscribers across 4 continents that ultimately merged with VimpelCom Ltd, to create one of the world’s largest telecommunications carriers. Before joining OTH, Aldo was Managing Director at the Investment Banking Division of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and also held other senior management positions in Paris, New York and London. In 2011, he was nominated as the “Telecom CFO of the Year” by World Finance.
Aldo holds an Engineering degree from École Centrale de Lyon in France.
Amer Atwi – MD, Mobile Division
Amer Atwi joins Telkom Kenya as the Head of its Mobile Division.
Prior to this, he was the Managing Director at COMIUM, a telecommunications company in the Gambia. Before this, Amer was the International Business Development Manager at COMIUM Group. He has also worked at LibanCell, a GSM operator in Lebanon, in various capacities for a period of 5 years.
He holds an Executive MBA from École Supérieure des Affaires in Beirut and a dual degree from École Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, France. He also holds an Engineering degree in Computers and Communications from the American University of Beirut.
Kris Senanu – MD, Enterprise Division
Kris Senanu has 20 years’ experience in the ICT industry having joined it in 1996. Prior to joining Telkom Kenya, Kris was the Deputy CEO at Internet Solutions (IS) Kenya (formerly the Access Kenya Group), a leading African Internet Protocol-based Communications Service Provider. His role focused on creating shareholder value by instilling a common vision and developing the company into a dominant player in the industry.
While at Internet Solutions, Mr. Senanu grew through the ranks from being a Commercial Manager to Managing Director of the company’s Internet Division. He was instrumental in growing the company’s revenue from USD 2,000 to USD 25 Million in 7 years, with a total asset value of USD 3 billion. This achievement earned Access Kenya brand equity as the best corporate ISP in the East African region. He also led the strategic and performance management of the public listing of Access Kenya on the Nairobi Securities Exchange Limited – to become the first listed ICT Company in the region.
Kris holds an MBA from Warwick University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor’s degree in International Business Administration with a focus in Marketing from the United States International University Africa (USIU-A). He is also a Chartered Marketer from the Chartered Institute of Marketing. In addition, he chairs the country’s Domain registry institution – Kenya Network Information Center (KENIC) and the Kenya Institute of Management’s (KIM) Business Committee. He is also a previous chair of the Telecommunications Service Providers of Kenya.
George Mokogi – MD, Carrier Services Division
Prior to this role, he was the Chief Carrier Services Officer at Telkom Kenya. He has 20 years’ experience working in the software development and telecommunications fields in Kenya, Uganda and the United States.
Prior to joining the company, he was the Senior Manager for Enterprise Field Technical Services at Safaricom. He was also a Program Manager for Xerox Corporation in the United States. He has also worked for AT & T-Greensboro, North Carolina, JC Penny Store Systems – Dallas, Texas.
Kebaso holds a Master of Arts in Management (Human Resource Management) from the Dallas Baptist University, Texas, USA and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship and Strategic Management) from the University of North Texas, Denton, USA. He also has qualifications in Lean Six Sigma (Yellow Belt) and Novell Certification & Wireless Connectivity Technology.
He is also a Member (1996) of the Institute for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math majors (ISTEM) from the North Lake College, Irving – Texas.
Sundararaman Pattabiraman – Chief Finance Officer
Sundararaman Pattabiraman is Telkom Kenya’s Chief Finance Officer. Sundararaman has over 22 years’ experience, 16 of which have been in the Telecommunications Industry in different markets, driving strategic performance management and building robust financial systems.
Prior to joining Telkom Kenya, Sundararaman was the Head of Finance – Financial Planning & Analysis at Safaricom Limited (Vodafone Group Co.) He was also a key committee member in Finance, Consumer and Enterprise Business, Financial Services (Mobile Money), Capex Board, Procurement Board and Project Management. Before joining Safaricom, he was a Director and Chief Finance Officer for Essar Telecom Kenya for 5 years. He successfully executed the Merger & Acquisition transaction in Essar Telecom with Safaricom and Airtel. In 2005-2009, Mr. Pattabiraman joined Bharti Airtel –Tamil Nadu, India as Principal Finance Officer and rose through the ranks to become the Chief Controller. He improved the revenue market share from fourth position to first position in a span of 2 years.
Prior to this, he was Head of Finance at Hutchinson Telecom (now Vodafone India). Before this, he also held a leadership position at Motorola, India and managerial positions at Gillette India and TVS Electronics.
Sundararaman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from the University of Madras, India. He is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, a Cost Accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and a Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He also took part in a Senior Management Program at the Indian Institute of Management – Calcutta, India.
John Barorot – Chief Technology Officer
John Barorot has over 20 years’ experience in the ICT and Telecommunications industry having served at senior management positions in Safaricom, Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya.
While at Safaricom he worked for over 10 years rising from the position of Network Maintenance Manager to becoming its Chief Technical Officer. He is credited with spearheading the successful development of the overall operation and planning of Safaricom’s cellular network rollout, network quality improvement and Information Technology. He was also in-charge of the financial planning and technology strategy formulation for: Planning and Engineering, Network Implementation, Network Maintenance, Information Technology, Billing and Technical support and Network Quality.
While at Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya, John served as the Technical Director and an assistant Manager respectively. John is a recipient of the Presidential Award of the Moran of the Burning Spear (MBS), in 2011, for his contribution towards the ICT sector in Kenya. He holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Moi University, Kenya and a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Communications from the same institution.
Mercy Nduku – Chief Human Resources Officer
Mercy’s portfolio boasts of fifteen years experience in Human Resource Management with nine years at senior management levels across various sectors; Hospitality, NGO, Insurance and Healthcare services.
Prior to joining Orange, Mercy was the Group Human Resource Manager at AAR Holdings Limited where she provided strategic HR leadership and expertise to the AAR Group of Companies in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. She has also worked with Church World Service/Joint Voluntary Agency as its Human Resources Manager, with Madison Insurance Company Kenya Limited as a Human Resources and Public Relations Manager and with SGS (Société Générale de Surveillance) Kenya Limited as its Human Resource Manager.
Mercy holds an Executive MBA from ESAMI, a post-graduate higher National Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Human Resource Management and a Bachelor of Education degree. She is also an internationally Accredited Executive Coach (AoEC) and holds other numerous certifications in Human Resources Management. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Serge Medic – Chief Administration and Compliance Officer
Serge Medic brings over 14 years of project and program management experience in the Telecommunications sector, including setting up and operating various program office functions at an international level. He also has a wealth of experience in finance issues of which he has been Treasury Manager and Chief of Administration for Manor in Switzerland.
He also has experience in setting up and operating Quality Assurance departments.
Serge holds a Bachelor of Economics from University of Grenoble in France. He is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI). He is also a Certified Quality Manager and Internal Auditor and also holds certification in COPC (Customer Operations Performance Center) as a Registered Coordinator from COPC Inc.
Wangechi Gichuki – Ag. Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs Officer
Wangechi Gichuki is an experienced lawyer of 9 years standing, having been admitted to the bar of Advocates in 2006. She has diversified experience in commercial, corporate & business law, conveyancing, litigation, regulatory and compliance with the latter being acquired in the telecommunications sector at both operational and strategic levels.
Prior to joining Telkom Kenya, Wangechi was the Senior Regulatory Officer & ESMP Manager at Airtel Networks Kenya Limited, a position she held for four years, providing analysis and counsel on regulatory issues affecting both the mobile service business and mobile money business. Wangechi holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Nairobi and is also the holder of Part 1 Company Secretarial certification.
George Mlaghui – Chief Corporate Communications Officer
Prior to this role, George was the company’s External Communications Manager. George has ten years’ experience in the Public Relations industry in Kenya, with a focus on ICT. Prior to joining the company, George had worked with PR Agency Apex Porter Novelli, handling the East African Community portfolio. He has also worked for the AccessKenya Group, in its Communications, Sponsorship and CSR function. He is currently pursuing his chartered status with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) in the United Kingdom. He is also a graduate of Daystar University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya as well as a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations, UK.
Anne Njeri Nyagah – Head of Customer Care
Telkom Kenya has appointed Anne Nyagah as its Head of Customer Care. Prior to this role, she was the Deputy Head of Customer Care in the same company. She has over 15 years experience in Customer Care, Sales and Marketing within the telecommunications, oil and retailing industrial sectors.
Anne holds a Master of Science in Strategic Management from the United States International University – San Diego, CA and a Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in International Business Administration from the United States International University (USIU) – Nairobi. She also holds a certification in COPC (Customer Operations Performance Center) as a Registered Coordinator from COPC Inc.
Levi Nyakundi- Chief Marketing Officer
Mr. Levi Nyakundi is the new Chief Marketing Officer. Levi has over 15 years’ experience in the Marketing Industry both in the telecommunications and FMCG sectors. Prior to joining Telkom Kenya, he was the Marketing Director at Airtel Kenya, Airtel Tanzania and Airtel Uganda for 6 years. He was responsible for leading revenue planning and forecasting processes and working on Customer Market Share for all three countries.
He has also worked at Unilever Kenya and Unilever Uganda, in various capacities for a period of 6 years. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Nairobi. He also holds certification in the Advanced Management Program (AMP) from the Strathmore Business School (SBS) and IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain and an Airtel/Insead Leadership Program Certificate from Insead Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Eddy Njoroge – Chairman of the Board
Eddy Njoroge is the Chairman of the Board of Telkom Kenya Limited.
Apart from Telkom Kenya, Mr. Njoroge holds Board Chairmanships of the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Aureos East Africa Fund, Corbetti Geothermal Company in Ethiopia, Tanalec Limited in Zambia and is the President to the Upper-Tana Nairobi Water Fund. He is also a member of various Boards as non-Executive Director.
Born in 1952, Mr. Njoroge holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Honors) in Chemistry/Biochemistry from Makerere University, Uganda. He is a recipient of several awards including the Africa Investor 100 CEO of the Year 2011 and ESI Africa Utility CEO of the Year 2011. Mr. Njoroge has also been decorated by the French Government with the Ordre National du Mérite for his contributions in advancement of power generation in Africa. He was also awarded the Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) and the Chief of the Burning Spear (CBS); two Kenyan national honors by the former President of Kenya, His Excellency Mwai Kibaki. He is also the recipient of the Life Time Award by the Africa Energy Forum for his contribution to the power sector in Africa in 2013.
Steven Evans – Executive Vice-Chairman
Steven Evans is the Executive Vice-Chairman of Telkom Kenya. He also currently holds non-executive positions in various organisations. Apart from Telkom Kenya, Mr. Evans is the Telecommunications Advisor for Helios Investment Partners, non-executive Director of HTN Towers in Nigeria, Executive Advisor to Emagine International in Australia and Chairman of Xpres Messaging in the United States.
Mr. Evans has 21 years’ experience in senior management within the global mobile telecommunications sector. He was CEO at Etisalat Nigeria from 2008-2013. He grew the company by taking it from fourth position to a top two operator by revenue within 6 years based on network quality, service excellence and innovation. In 2004-2007, Mr. Evans was CEO of BT Mobile in the United Kingdom where he developed and executed BT’s strategy to build a material mobile and fixed mobile convergence business.
Steven holds an MBA in International Business and Marketing from the London City Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Mathematics from Reading University in the UK.
Henry K. Rotich – Board Member
Mr. Henry K. Rotich is the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Rotich was the Head of Macroeconomics at The Treasury, Ministry of Finance, since March 2006. Under this capacity, he was involved in formulation of macroeconomic policies that ensured an affordable and sustainable path of public spending aimed at achieving the Government’s development priorities. In addition, he was also involved in preparation of key budget documents including the Budget Statements, as well as providing strategic coordination of structural reforms in the area of fiscal and the financial sector.
Prior to joining the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Rotich worked at the Research Department of the Central Bank of Kenya since 1994. Between, 2001-2004, he was attached to the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) local office as an economist.
Mr. Rotich holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard University. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (First Class Honours), both from the University of Nairobi.
Esther Koimett – Board Member (Alternate)
Ms. Koimett is the Investment Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. In this capacity she represents The Treasury at the Telkom Kenya Limited Board.
Ms. Koimett holds a Bachelor of Commerce and an MBA from the University of Nairobi, and has over 25 years’ experience in public service in Kenya, including more than 18 years in investment promotion, privatization and public enterprise reform. She has previously served as Kenya’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism & Broadcasting and Managing Director, Kenya Post Office Savings Bank.
Eng. Victor Kyalo – Board Member
Eng. Victor Kyalo is a Communications engineer with wide experience in systems design, integration and project management. He has been involved in Information Systems Networking/Telecommunications for the last 25 years both in deployment of solutions and in training at the University level.
Currently, Eng. Kyalo is the Principal Secretary in charge of ICT & Innovation at the Ministry of ICT. Prior to this, he was the CEO at the ICT Authority.
Among the notable projects he has been involved in include: leadership of the Kenya TCIP World Bank funded project; the Project Manager/Engineer for the East African Marine System (TEAMS), rollout and operationalization of the National Optical Fibre Backbone Initiative (NOFBI) as well as a Neutral National Data Center initiative (NNDC).
Eng. Kyalo holds an MSc. Electronics (Eindhoven University), BSc. Electrical Engineering 1st Class (University of Nairobi). He is currently pursuing a Msc. Economics at the University of Nairobi. He is a Registered Engineer (Kenya), a Member of IEEE and a member of PMI.
